Pool Session
In pool sessions we do not take responsibility for the children, you are expected to stay and supervise them, check they clear up after the session, help with any problems they have with equipment etc.
Members need to be keen to participate and swim lengths throughout the session, and be prepared to learn to dive and tumble turn. The children are expected to listen to the coach and participate with full effort. When each set is finished they should wait with their head above the water for the next instruction. Lane discipline is essential for safety and to ensure fast progress, swimmers must keep to the sides and overtake on the inside. The fins are sharp and can cut skin, when wearing one be aware of this and keep it under control as best you can.
Newcomers who are not as fast swim at the end of the lane and, if lapped, reduce their lengths by finishing with the others.
Children are expected to create a pile of their equipment at the side of the pool and to clear all the equipment used at the end of the session; borrowed equipment must be put back into the club box at the end of the session by a supervising adult.
Parents should not leave the building during the session and any medication ( asthma pump etc ) must be available at all times on the poolside. Any child who could, due to a medical condition already known, suffer a fit, epilepsy or any illness that could cause a possible reduction of consciousness must obtain medical clearance before joining a pool session and the coach must be informed before they enter the pool.
Equipment
1) Goggles ( mask if you cannot use a snorkel without holding your nose )
2) Racing swimming costume, trunks or jammers ( not floppy shorts or bikinis )
3) Front snorkel ( inside length no longer than 18cm, no drain valve, so buy one from the club as the Finis ones do not conform ) - £20.00
4) Sterio fins – buy foot fins from a diving shop as these need to be suitable for training and racing. £ 20.00 +
5) Monofin – these are imported from the Ukraine and cost between £70.00 ( first fin ) and £300.00 each. Postage and customs payments can add another £ 50.00 to the cost so we tend to order a few at the same time to share the costs. These can take between 4 – 10 weeks to be delivered and therefore need to be purchased early if you plan to race. Club members do sometimes lend their spare fins to newcomers but this is not always possible.
Galas.
We are a racing club and therefore you will be encouraged to enter galas in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany each year. Most members opt to go to Belgium in April, Holland in January and May then compete at Edenbridge in November. Faster Finswimmers may be invited to race with the British Team, and in the European and World Cup series.
In galas we do not take any responsibility for the children; each family makes their own travel arrangements and we all meet together to fin and socialise in the evenings. We usually try to make a hotel as a base; here we usually have a pool that the children can all play in together and then meet up for an evening meal in the hotel restaurant. You are free to stay wherever you want and visit us as you can.
Please see the web site "Clendar of Events" tab left for details or this years galas.
Many parents try to share lifts to reduce the costs, this is often arranged informally on the poolside.
